The Burg-Wächter Key Safe 50 is a battery-free combination key safe with a detachable plastic-coated steel shackle, so it can hang from a gate handle, fence rail, door handle or similar anchor point, or be wall-mounted with the included screws and plugs. It is the only model in the Burg-Wächter key safe range that offers both mounting options.
The die-cast zinc body opens on a 4-dial resettable mechanical combination with 10,000 possible codes, and a sliding shutter flap covers the dials. Can it be wall-mounted instead of hung from the shackle?
Yes. Remove the shackle to expose the four corner fixing holes on the back plate, drill 6mm holes, insert the included plugs and fix with the included screws. The unit works the same way whether wall-mounted or hung from the shackle.

- Shackle use - anchor point selection: The detachable shackle loops over or through a gate handle, fence rail or similar anchor point with a 45mm clearance gap. Make sure the anchor point is secure and cannot easily be lifted off or unthreaded. The shackle is a convenience feature for flexible placement, not a high-security anchor; wall-mounting with screws into masonry is the more resistant installation.
- Reset mechanism - Key Safe 50: The Key Safe 50 uses the simplified slide-pin reset: open the safe, slide the pin left and down, set the new combination, return the pin, then close the lid and check the box opens with the new code before you leave keys inside. No plastic cap needs to be removed, unlike the Burg-Wächter Key Safe 10 and 20.
- Maintenance: Turn all four dials weekly to keep them moving freely, as Burg-Wächter recommends. Wipe the body and shackle with a dry cloth periodically. Keep the shutter flap closed when not in use. Check the shackle connection point periodically to confirm the unit remains secure.
