Yale YL16 Key In Lever Privacy Set 60mm Backset - YL16/PRI/SC Satin Chrome

The Yale YL16/PRI/SC is a privacy function lever set from the Yale Commercial Series cylindrical lockset range. The privacy function allows the inside lever to operate a button or turnsnib that locks the outside lever, preventing entry from outside while the room is in use. The inside lever always provides free egress. Emergency access from outside is possible using a coin or emergency release tool.

With a 60mm backset, it suits standard Australian door preparations. Satin Chrome finish.

Fire rating icon Fire Rated

Yale Commercial Series cylindrical locksets have been successfully tested for up to 2 hours fire resistance on approved door assemblies in accordance with AS1905.1. Fire rating applies to the complete doorset configuration and not the lockset as a standalone item.

FAQ icon Frequently Asked Questions

  • How does the privacy function work?
From inside, the user presses or turns the privacy button or snib on the inside lever assembly. This locks the outside lever so it cannot be turned to open the door. The inside lever always remains free to open the door regardless of whether the privacy function is engaged. To release the privacy lock from outside in an emergency, a coin or small tool is inserted into the release slot on the outside lever rose.
  • Can someone enter from outside when the privacy button is engaged?
Not with the lever alone. However, the privacy function includes an emergency outside access point - typically a small slot on the outside rose that can be operated with a coin or flat-head tool. This is intentional for safety, allowing entry in the event someone is incapacitated inside.
  • Is this suitable for external doors?
No. Privacy sets are designed for internal doors only. They do not provide key-operated security locking and should not be used on entry or external doors where security is required.
  • What is the difference between a privacy set and a passage set?
A passage set (such as YL16/PAS/SC) has no locking function - both levers always operate freely. A privacy set (YL16/PRI/SC) has an inside button or snib that can lock the outside lever, providing privacy when the room is occupied. The inside always remains free in both cases.
  • Is a key needed to operate the privacy lock?
No. The privacy function is operated by an inside button, turn or snib - no key is required. The "Key In Lever" designation refers to the product series name, not a keying requirement on the privacy function.

Additional information icon Additional Information

  • Privacy sets are the standard function specified for bathrooms, ensuites and toilets in both residential and commercial construction in Australia.
  • The emergency outside access feature is a critical safety requirement - do not block or disable the outside emergency release slot on the privacy lever rose.
  • If a 70mm backset is required, the YL17/PRI/SC is the equivalent model in the same series. Always confirm the backset of the existing door preparation before ordering, as these are non-returnable items.
  • The lever design provides improved accessibility compared to knob alternatives, supporting compliance with accessibility design requirements where applicable.

The summary below sets out each period, what is excluded, and how to make a claim through Gold Coast Smart Locks.

This warranty applies to genuine Yale products purchased new in Australia from ASSA ABLOY or its authorised resellers. It operates in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

How to Make a Claim

Start your claim with us
For full returns and warranty claim procedures, visit our Returns & Warranty page - this is kept up to date and is the authoritative reference for current claim steps.
  1. Keep your proof of original purchase (invoice or receipt).
  2. Contact Gold Coast Smart Locks - operated by Terry's Tradies Pty Ltd and its associated websites, trading names, and subsidiaries - as your authorised retailer, and follow the steps on our Returns & Warranty page.
  3. Return the product securely packed to protect it in transit, together with your proof of purchase and your name, address, email and phone number.
  4. ASSA ABLOY assesses the claim. Where the warranty applies, they will (at their option) repair the product, replace it with the same or closest equivalent Yale product, or refund the price you paid.

Claims made directly to ASSA ABLOY require a Case Number from their Customer Service Department before goods are returned - products sent back without a Case Number may not be accepted. Costs of returning a product are the customer's responsibility.

What Is Not Covered

  • Normal wear and tear.
  • Misuse, abuse, accident, or use outside Yale's published technical specifications.
  • Improper maintenance or neglect, or failure to follow ASSA ABLOY's care and maintenance recommendations.
  • Use of batteries other than those specified; batteries themselves are not covered.
  • Unauthorised alteration, modification or repair by anyone other than ASSA ABLOY authorised personnel.
  • Custom orders made to components or specifications supplied by someone other than ASSA ABLOY.
  • Goods that were not new when purchased, second-hand goods, or products not originally sold in Australia through ASSA ABLOY or an authorised reseller.
  • Products with brands, marks, plates, numbers or other ASSA ABLOY information defaced or removed.
  • Use of substitute, replacement or non-genuine ASSA ABLOY parts or cylinders.

  • Removal, refitment or replacement of products, and any associated charges.

Important Notes

Batteries, finishes and stainless steel
Batteries are consumable and are not covered. Cosmetic finishes and appearance are excluded. Stainless steel resists staining but is not stain-proof - tea staining is a natural process and is not covered where cleaning and maintenance guidelines have not been followed.
Coastal and corrosive environments
Damage from salt spray, coastal air, high humidity and other corrosives is excluded. In Gold Coast and coastal locations, choose a suitable finish and follow the care and maintenance guidance to protect your hardware and preserve your cover.

Your Rights Under the Australian Consumer Law

In addition to this warranty
This manufacturer's warranty is in addition to other rights and remedies you may have under the law. Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and to compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if they fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.
