Installation and Styling Tips

  • Ensure correct alignment: When installing the 1446.SS Short 23mm Backset Sliding Door Mortice Lock, use a level to ensure that both the lock and the escutcheon are aligned perfectly. This not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also ensures smooth operation.
  • Choose the right pull handles: Pair your mortice lock with sleek, modern entrance pull handles that complement the design of the lock. Opt for finishes such as brushed stainless steel to create a cohesive look that harmonizes with other hardware in the space.
  • Consider the door thickness: Verify that your sliding door is compatible with the lock's specifications. Ensure that the door thickness matches the requirements of the lock to avoid installation challenges and ensure a secure fit.
  • Utilize spacers if necessary: If your sliding door has an irregular surface, use spacers to ensure the mortice lock sits flush against the door. This prevents any gaps that may affect the lock's functionality and overall appearance.
  • Enhance with decorative escutcheons: Select an escutcheon that not only fits your mortice lock but also adds a decorative element to your door. Consider options with intricate designs or finishes that can elevate the overall style of your entrance.

Care Tips

  • For maintaining the functionality of your short backset oval mortice lock and escutcheon, regularly apply a few drops of graphite lubricant into the keyhole. This will prevent the locking mechanism from seizing up and ensure smooth operation.
  • To keep the escutcheon looking its best, clean it with a soft cloth dampened with a solution of warm water and mild dish soap. Avoid harsh chemicals that can tarnish the finish. Dry immediately with a clean towel to prevent water spots.
  • Inspect the lock and escutcheon for any signs of rust or corrosion, especially if they are exposed to moisture. If you notice any rust, gently scrub the affected area with a fine steel wool pad, then apply a rust-inhibitor spray to prevent further damage.

Finish care and maintenance
Proper maintenance, care, cleaning and polishing in accordance with Zanda's instructions are essential to retain a product's finish - particularly soft finishes or finishes that naturally age, such as Brushed Nickel, Satin Chrome, Polished Brass, Graphite Nickel, Matt Chrome, Unlacquered Brass, Matt Brass, Rumbled Brass, Roman Brass, Natural Bronze, Oil Rubbed, Satin Brass, Brushed Bronze, Antique Bronze, Buffed Bronze, Matt Antique Bronze, Venetian Bronze and Powdercoat. These finishes are subject to deterioration, corrosion and oxidation from conditions such as salt deposits, scratches from sharp objects, paint thinners and caustic agents. For care of stainless steel products, see the ASSDA guidance on preventing coastal corrosion and tea staining.
