Frequently Asked Questions
- What does edge-mounted mean and how does it differ from face-fixed?
An edge-mounted seal is fitted to the bottom edge of the door - the narrow face at the bottom, visible when the door is open. A face-fixed seal is screwed to the face of the door, visible when the door is closed. Edge mounting produces a cleaner appearance as the seal is concealed within the door edge profile. Ensure the door bottom edge is accessible and of sufficient depth to accept the seal before ordering. - What gap sizes does the LAS3004 accommodate?
The LAS3004 single fin silicone blade accommodates gaps of 10mm and 22mm between the door bottom and the floor or threshold surface. - Is this seal fire rated?
Yes. The LAS3004 is approved for use on proprietary AS1905.1 fire doors for up to a 4 hour fire rating. Confirm with your fire door supplier or certifier that this seal is appropriate for your specific fire door assembly before installation. - Is this suitable for bushfire-prone areas?
Yes. The LAS3004 is suitable for BAL 40 and BAL FZ bushfire sealing requirements, making it appropriate for doors in high and extreme bushfire attack level zones in Australia. - Which length should I order?
Order a length equal to or longer than the door width, then cut to the required size during installation. If cutting is not preferred, select the closest standard length to the door width. The four available lengths are 1000mm, 2100mm, 2750mm and 3000mm.
Additional Information
- The pre-drilled slotted fixing holes allow the seal to be adjusted vertically after initial installation to achieve consistent contact with the floor or threshold across the full width of the door.
- Accurate positioning is critical to sealing performance. Uneven fixing or incorrect gap setting can result in inconsistent contact between the silicone blade and the threshold, reducing fire, smoke and weather sealing effectiveness.
- The LAS3004 is compliant with BCA Specification C3.4 smoke sealing requirements, making it suitable for smoke compartment doors in commercial and multi-residential buildings where smoke control is mandated under the National Construction Code.
- The 1,000,000 cycle durability rating confirms the seal is designed for long-term performance on frequently used doors in commercial and institutional environments.
