FAQ icon Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a dummy lever and when is it used?
A dummy lever is a non-operating decorative lever that does not turn or operate a latch mechanism. It is used on the inactive side of double doors, decorative applications, or anywhere the appearance of a lever is required without operational functionality.
  • Can this be used with active Symmetry VICINITY locksets?
Yes. The dummy lever coordinates aesthetically with active Symmetry VICINITY entrance locksets, passage sets, and privacy locks, providing matching lever profile and finish across operating and non-operating doors within the same property.
  • What is the difference between the three finish options?
Chrome Plate (CP) provides a bright reflective silver finish. Polished Brass (PB) offers a warm golden appearance with high shine. Satin Chrome (SC) provides a contemporary brushed silver finish. All finishes are covered by the 5 year finish guarantee.
  • What door preparation is required for installation?
Dummy levers require minimal door preparation compared to operating locksets. Installation involves drilling holes for the horizontal mounting screws and securing the lever assembly. No latch preparation, backset drilling, or strike installation is required.
  • Is this suitable for both left and right-hand doors?
Yes. The VICINITY dummy lever is reversible and suitable for both left-hand and right-hand door applications, providing installation flexibility without requiring separate handed versions.
  • What is the OneCyl® system and how does it relate to dummy levers?
OneCyl® is Lockwood's exclusive cylinder assembly solution that allows cylinder interchangeability in operating locksets within the Symmetry range. While dummy levers do not contain operating cylinders, they are part of the coordinated Symmetry range that features OneCyl® compatibility in its active lockset models.
