Frequently Asked Questions
- What does a strike shield do?
A strike shield is a hardened plate fitted over the latch area of the door frame. On open-out doors, it reduces the gap between the door and frame that can be exploited by shimming or latch-slipping tools, helping to prevent forced entry through latch attack. - What is the difference between concealed and visible fixing?
Concealed fix versions such as the BOSS092SS use hex key bolts that are not accessible from the exterior face of the door once installed, making them more tamper-resistant and providing a cleaner appearance. Visible fix versions use standard hex bolts that are visible on the door face. - Is this product suitable for inward-opening doors?
No. The BOSS092SS is specifically designed for open-out doors. Door swing must be confirmed before specifying this product. - Is this strike shield fire rated?
Yes. The BOSS092SS is fire rated and suitable for use on fire-rated door assemblies. - What locks is the BOSS092SS compatible with?
It is designed to suit 127 mm backset mortice locks, key-in-knob sets and lever sets. Confirm the lock backset and latch position before installation to ensure correct alignment.
Additional Information
- Strike shields are commonly specified on outward-opening commercial and institutional doors to reduce the risk of latch attack.
- The concealed fixing method means hex key bolts are not accessible from outside the building once installed, reducing the risk of tampering.
- Grade 316 stainless steel offers superior corrosion resistance compared to grade 304, making it suitable for coastal or high-humidity environments.
- Always confirm the lock backset and latch position before drilling to ensure correct plate alignment.
- Supplied in a bulk pack. Confirm pack quantity with supplier at time of order.
