ASSA ABLOY SMARTair i-gate Electronic Padlock – MIFARE RFID, Openow Mobile Access, IP68 (SNBBP2XI)
The ASSA ABLOY SMARTair i-gate Electronic Padlock is a wireless access control padlock designed to secure locations where conventional electronic door locks cannot be installed. The padlock integrates an RFID reader, electronic control unit and electromechanical clutch within a sealed industrial padlock body, allowing credential-based access control for gates, cabinets, cages and infrastructure equipment.
This configuration (SNBBP2XI) supports MIFARE RFID credentials and operates within the SMARTair Update-on-Card and Openow mobile credential ecosystem. Authorised users can unlock the padlock using smart cards, key fobs or smartphone credentials issued through the SMARTair management platform.
Unlike traditional mechanical padlocks, the SMARTair i-gate padlock records access events, supports scheduled permissions and allows credentials to be cancelled without replacing hardware. The device is fully battery powered and requires no cabling, making it ideal for remote infrastructure and retrofit security upgrades.
For an overview of the SMARTair ecosystem, see the SMARTair Wireless Access Control Overview.

The SMARTair i-gate electronic padlock is designed for outdoor environments and carries an IP68 environmental protection rating. The sealed electronic module and protective rubber housing help protect internal components from dust, moisture and harsh weather conditions, making the padlock suitable for gates, infrastructure enclosures, cages and external equipment storage.

Important installation guidance for weatherproof performance:
- The padlock must be installed vertically with the shackle facing upwards.
- Weatherproof protection is guaranteed only while the shackle is fully closed.
- Do not leave the padlock open when installed outdoors, as this compromises the environmental sealing.
Following these installation guidelines ensures the padlock maintains its rated environmental protection and long-term reliability in outdoor conditions.

Item Code Family – SMARTair i-gate Electronic Padlocks
The following products belong to the ASSA ABLOY SMARTair i-gate electronic padlock range. Variants differ primarily by system architecture and credential technology, while all models share the same IP68-rated outdoor padlock hardware platform.
Both MIFARE and HID iCLASS are secure RFID credential technologies used in commercial access control systems. The SMARTair i-gate padlock can be supplied with either reader type depending on the credential system already used in the building.
- MIFARE is a widely used open RFID standard commonly deployed in access control, universities, transport cards and multi-application credential systems.
- HID iCLASS is a proprietary HID credential platform typically used in enterprise security systems and facilities already using HID card technology.
- The reader type must match the credential technology used by the building's existing access control cards or fobs.
If you are unsure which credential technology your site uses, our team can help identify compatibility before purchase.
ASSA ABLOY branded products purchased new in Australia from authorised resellers are covered against defects in materials and workmanship for:
